About Us
De Been Wodonga is an Academy directly linked to de Been 100% Jiu Jitsu Australia. We are one of five de Been Academies within Australia, spreading the sport of Jiu Jitsu in north east country Victoria. Our goal is to share the sport with everyone and make it a feature sport within north east Victoria.
The owner, Greg, first experienced Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 2008 whilst in the military, lecturing at the Australian Defence Force Physical Training School. The shift in the operational tempo within the three services saw the introduction of the Military Self Defence course (MSD) which had components of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Krav Maga and weapon retention techniques (Greg furthered his training within the MSD syllabus to become a Senior Instructor within the Australian Regular Army providing technical support to the Royal Australian Navy and Royal Australian Air Force).
At the time that Greg was actively training and competing in the sport of Muay Thai and was asked by the Senior Instructor to join him in a class of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu within the local area and he instantly saw how effective the sport was in terms of both self preservation and self defence. His journey began there and he has never looked back, enjoying the journey that the sport has taken him.
In 2015 Greg moved from Darwin to Wodonga and decided to settled in region. He saw that the sport was very limited within the region and in on April 3, 2017 de been 100% Jiu Jitsu Wodonga was established.
Greg travels regularly to de Been HQ for his own personal training and development working closely with Peter de Been who is not only his coach and mentor, but close friend.
