Becoming Bullyproof
Our classes also assist the juniors to become ‘bully-proof’ should they be placed in an intimidating or bullying situation. This is typically conducted at the start of a school term to prepare and remind them children of how to use Brazilian Jiu Jitsu safely, but at the same time controlling the situation should it require it. We encourage our Juniors to use their minds and not their fists in situations where they may be intimidated or bullied.
Our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program empowers children with confidence. We do not encourage punching or kicking in these confronting situations, and we teach them ways to process these situations to their advantage. Classes are typically held in 10 week blocks that align with Victorian school terms. Students in this age bracket that are mature and considered ‘advanced’ may be invited to join the teens class.

Our Juniors program (8-11yrs) is designed to develop fundamental skills such as agility, balance and co-ordination as well as developing resilience, focus and confidence through basic techniques.
Through these techniques the juniors are able to connect the techniques together and find their own way of attacking and defending when wrestling.

Our 9 year old son has been training with Greg at De Been Wodonga for 18months. Greg and the other coaches were very welcoming and encouraging of our son. He has struggled at times and has grown a lot personally and physically over this time. He is now better able to manage his emotions and is more confident in himself. Greg and the other coaches are great at working with young people. He makes a concerted effort to know every child's name from day 1 of their training. He understands individual differences and challenges each child to achieve their best. We have now signed our 6 year old daughter up to train with Greg in 2020. She is feeling nervous but I trust that Greg and the team will do a great job. Otherwise I would not entrust my children to their care. I strongly recommend de Been 100% Jiu Jitsu Wodonga.

Champions Cup
The Juniors program is a comprehensive program that introduces the sport of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and offers them an opportunity to experience competition at the end of each term through the Champions Cup.
With so many participation trophies in sport now days, children do not know what it is like to lose, and have a false sense of competition. In the sport of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, there is only one winner. Children that participate in the Champions Cup will learn that it is ok to lose and that there are lessons to be learnt from a loss.

A Parents Perspective
One of my friends asked “Why do you pay so much money for your kids to do Jiu Jitsu?” Well I have a confession to make. Personally, I couldn’t care less about Jiu Jitsu. So, if I am not paying for Jiu Jitsu, what am I paying for?
- I pay for those moments when my kids become so tired they want to quit but don’t.
- I pay for those days when my kids come home from school and are “too tired” to go to training but go anyway.
- I pay for my kids to learn to be disciplined.
- I pay for my kids to learn to take care of their body.
- I pay for my kids to learn to work with others and to be good team mates.
- I pay for my kids to learn to deal with disappointment, when they compete in tournaments but don’t get the result they hoped for, but still had to work hard in the preparation and competition.
- I pay for my kids to learn to set and accomplish goals.
- I pay for my kids to learn that it takes hours and hours and hours of hard work and practice to create a Champion, and that success does not happen overnight.
- I pay for the opportunity they will have to make life long friendships.
- I pay for my kids to learn to think, to develop tactics and strategies to solve problems.
- I pay for my kids so that they can be on the mats instead of in front of a screen.
- I pay for my kids to develop confidence that they can use in all aspects of their life.
- I pay for my kids to learn to defend themselves so they will not get bullied.
- I pay for a safe environment, so my kids can learn self defence without being susceptible to long term injuries.
I would recommend De Been Jiu Jitsu to anyone. They are such a wonderful friendly team that has become like a family to our son and us. They have helped our son grow in many ways such as confidence, strength, respect and have the ability to never give up.
